Title:	Melvin R. Sampson Hatchery draft EIS
Description:	BPA has prepared a draft environmental impact statement analyzing the potential effects of the proposed Melvin R. Sampson fish hatchery in Kittitas County, Wash. BPA is considering whether to fund the Confederated Tribes of the Yakama Nation to build and operate the fish hatchery and related fish production and release programs. The draft environmental impact statement discusses the environmental effects expected from facility construction and program operations. Coho salmon were extirpated from the Yakima Basin in the 1980s. The goal of the project is to enhance fish populations available for harvest and to aid in re-establishing a naturally spawning coho salmon population in the Yakima Basin. The hatchery would be used to incubate and rear up to 700,000 juvenile coho salmon for release in tributaries of the Yakima and Naches rivers. Your feedback helps better assess the environmental impacts of the proposed project and your involvement is an important part of the National Environmental Policy Act.
