Project proposal:
The Bonneville Power Administration is proposing to rebuild the 41-mile, 115-kV Lane-Wendson No. 1 transmission line that runs between Eugene and Florence in Lane County, Ore. BPA will prepare an environmental assessment of the project to better understand the impacts of the proposal and meet the agencies responsibilities under the National Environmental Policy Act. BPA invites the public to participate during the environmental review process to ensure that project decisions are well-informed. Two scoping meetings will be held to solicit input on what should be considered during the environmental review.
The transmission line was originally constructed in 1948 and the wooden power poles have outlived their planned service life. There is a need to rebuild the line to maintain reliable electrical service and to avoid risks to the safety of the public and maintenance crews. The intent of the project is to rebuild the line using generally the same structure locations and similar pole heights, except where changes may be needed to conform to safety standards.
