The Bonneville Power Administration is proposing to fund habitat restoration along the Elochoman River in Wahkiakum County, Wash. If BPA decides to fund the project, Columbia Land Trust will conduct restoration actions along the Elochoman River, approximately one and one half miles north of Cathlamet, Wash. Proposed restoration actions include the removal of a low levee along the Elochoman River, the filling of ditches on the property, tidal channel excavation, invasive vegetation control, and native vegetation plantings. The restoration would improve habitat for 13 Endangered Species Act-listed salmon and steelhead species, as well as other fish and wildlife species. BPA is analyzing the potential impacts of the proposal as required under the National Environmental Policy Act. As part of the NEPA analysis we are asking that you help us determine which issues should be addressed in the environmental analysis.

paceGood project. But please explain why levee removal, etc., are ratepayers' responsibility.

SchmittI own property and land on Lower Elochoman. Anything you can do would be an improvement over what has been done in the last 30 to 40 years. My land was condemned under imminent domain and the people who bought the property have adjacent land to mine.

SchwartzRE: Lower Elochoman Estuary Restoration. Our family owns property on the Elochoman River. It is immediately adjacent, on the west side, to the Bonneville Power Administration project property. Should Bonneville Power Administration move forward with the restoration project, we request that Bonneville Power Administration and Columbia Land Trust provide a boundary survey by an independent firm.

LongtainA call was received from a property owner directly across the river from the proposed project on Lower Elochoman. Robert received the scoping notice in the mail. He wants to know how the proposed project will affect his property. His property is about 30 acres and is adjacent to the wildlife refuge. His property has been used for cattle grazing in the past, but is currently not actively used. The property has been in the family for a long time. His brother uses the property for fishing and this area is noted for good steelhead fishing. Robert would be interested in possibly selling his land for fisheries habitat or having fish habitat improvements designed for his property.
